Oscar Crescencio, a Washington state farm worker, speaks to the state Senate Labor & Commerce Committee during a February 9, 2023 public hearing.
Crescencio testified in favor of Senate Bill 5476, which would have allowed workers to increase their income by permitting them to work up to 50 hours per week, during specific busy farming seasons, before overtime pay begins.
He shared how the rollout of the state's new law for overtime pay in farming has caused him to earn less money, as farms struggling with the increased costs have reduced workers hours in order to stay afloat.
