M15 is seen flying in with a fish in his talons and is being followed by an intruder. M15 lands on the nest & immediately mantles to protect his E's as the intruder lands on the attic, M15 continues with warning vocals but the intruder continues to stay on the attic. The intruder does bow its head in a submissive fashion after landing.
M15 waits about 17 minutes and does not think the intruder is a threat so he begins to feed E21. He feeds E21 for over twenty minutes and finally E22 makes it way over to get some fish. Then the intruder drops down to the nest with talons out and it appears to try and grab E22 but was unsuccessful. E22 loses it balance and goes submissive. I put this in slomo so you can see what happened better. I can't read what was in the intruder's mind to know if it actually intended to grab E22 or if it just bumped into E22 when it dropped to the nest. Watching the behavior before and after dropping to the nest seems the intruder might not have been a threat to the E's. However, intruders have grabbed and killed other eagles chicks so the risk should never be taken lightly. The intruder then goes to the rails and back to the nest where it started to eat some leftover food when our fierce M15 immediately lunges at it and pushes it off the nest!! Cam 1 and cam 3 footage is included.
The intruder flies off and circles the nest landing on the u branch. M15 then flies to the attic and then flies close to warn it and immediately comes back to the attic. This bold intruder stayed on the u branch for about 14 minutes before flying off south across the street. M15 has been such an amazing defender of his nest and E's - Harriet would be so proud of him today!! E22 is fine and unharmed. M15 was able to feed E22 about an hour later! What a great Dad! Thank you for watching!
