Private Lives: Home and Family in the Art of the Nabis Paris, 1889-1900. In 1889, a group of young artists in Paris created a loose-knit club of painters and printmakers. Borrowing from the Hebrew term nebim (prophet), they dubbed themselves the Nabi brotherhood. Although they never exhibited under this title, they were united through their deep bonds of friendship and their shared desire to create a new, subjective art of art. The exhibition explores the work of four Nabi artists - Pierre Bonnard, Edouard Vuillard, Maurice Denis, and Felix Vallotton, who explored the themes of home and family as wellsprings for this new art. #portlandartmuseum #artmuseum
