Further satisfying my desire to explore ruins, Carlos and Hugo Franco Salas guided me and a friend to this site. Located on the Imperial Inca trail between Cusco and Machu Picchu, Huchuy Qosqo (Quechua for little Cusco) is instantly impressive for its terraces. Once you enter the complex, see the fountain and various hydrology uses, the site continually amazes. Aspects suggest megalithic origins but clearly the Inca fortified and expanded it. Later the Spaniards added adobe buildings. Near a large barracks or marketplace building, is a big reservoir or reflecting pool above the extensive terracing. Our compass shifted its orientation when placed on a massive stone monolith. Some very interesting sight lines suggest a ceremonial centre with astrological alignment. The video ends with an intimate performance by Hugo and Carlos during a birthday celebration. Music (traditional) by my friends, Wiñay Taki de Pisac, used with permission.
