On Feb 28, a new frontrunner emerged in the race to become Malaysia's next prime minister. Former Home Affairs Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has secured support from both major opposition parties -- UMNO and PAS -- as well as his own Bersatu party, including Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Around 100 MPs are said to be openly backing Mr Muhyiddin, putting him just ahead of Mr Anwar Ibrahim in a tight race. Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir's plan for a special parliamentary session on Monday (March 2) to choose a new premier has been vetoed by the King.
