When on the range before you play a round or just out there to practice, We see a lot of golfers of all ages going through some half-ass stretches. Don’t get me wrong, doing some type of stretching is better then doing nothing at all, but taking 10 minutes to prepare your body for 4 hours of a golf round has to be taken more seriously and with more intent. Here are 5 static stretches that you should stop doing and “movements” you should substitute for them.
1.) Bending over and touching toes
Do this instead: Anterior/Posterior tilt with reverse toe touch
2.) Twisting with the club on the neck
Do this instead: Club across shoulders slow tempo turns with follow through dynamic swings
3.) Static quadriceps stretch
Do this instead: Standing knee across body dynamic stretch
4.) Arm across the body static stretch
Do this instead: Dynamic golf cart cross body stretch
5.) Hands behind lower back stretch
Do this instead: Standing dynamic hip circles
