While snorkeling at Makena Landing on the island of Maui, I was checking out this beautiful Moorish Idol, or Kihikihi, when a Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle came for a swim right past me!
Hawaiian green sea turtles, or Honu, are native to Hawaiʻi. They are the largest hard-shelled sea turtle in the world, reaching lengths of four feet and weighing over 300 pounds. Out of the seven types of sea turtle, the Hawaiian green sea turtle is the most common in Hawaiian waters.
Did you know they can dive up to 1,500 ft and hold their breath up to 5 hours?!!
Sea Turtles are endangered species so keep your distance from them whether on land or in water if possible!
