It’s the afternoon of Wednesday, February 1, 2023, looking out the rear of the rear Superliner coach of Amtrak train number 7, the westbound Empire Builder, headed from Chicago Union Station to Seattle, Washington.
We commence the video passing through Cascade Tunnel at the summit of Stevens Pass in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State, at 7.8 miles, the longest rail tunnel in America.
We exit the tunnel and commence descending Stevens Pass. We’re on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Scenic Subdivision, originally the Great Northern Railway.
During the descent, we pass an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway combination auto rack/intermodal train with two General Electric d-e locomotives on the point and two on the rear as DPU locomotives (Distributed Power Units).
