Luis Suarez agreed to sign for Inter Miami, for a one year deal, of just $200,000. During his Gremio stint, the Uruguay striker, earned more than $200k a month. However, The former Barcelona star, has now taken the plunge, to overlook the pay cut, so that he can reunite with Messi. Though there is a huge pay gap between Suarez and Messi, who earns $20 million per year, there is a valid reason behind this. So why will Suarez have to take a pay cut? The reason for Suarez's pay cut, is that Luis Suarez, hasn’t joined Inter Miami, as a designated player. A designated player, earns a bigger sum, outside the club’s salary cap. According to MLS rules, a club can have only three designated players. As for Intermiami, Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Gregore are already designated players in Miami, leaving no room for Suarez. Therefore, the Uruguayan will have to settle for a lesser pay, that puts him under the Designated Player threshold.
However, with his switch to the US, Suarez has an opportunity to grab lucrative deals with mega brands. But unlike, in Messi’s case, it is not specified, if Suarez has struck a deal with some huge company like "Apple TV". Besides, Suarez has an option to renew his contract in the next year. Since he has agreed to take a pay cut to join Messi, he will most likely renew the contract. Then, David Beckham and the Mas Brothers, will probably have a better offer for him. Do you think the Luiz Suarez will recreate a legacy at Miami and how long do you think he will stay in the club, is it likely that Suarez will retire in Miami?
