In the context of the EU funded project FARCE – Using Satire and Comedy to Promote Climate Change Awareness, four theatre and environment professionals prepared a comedy performance for the final event of the project. After they trained by the Center for Social Innovation on the FARCE Curriculum, which is available online for free*, they selected a very important topic in Cypriot society to create a comedy performance. Their intention is to raise awareness on the protection of Akamas peninsula, an area which is of great biodiversity importance, and it is now in danger of human intervention. The performance held on the 10th of June 2022 during the “8th International Symposium on Service - Learning (ISSL) 2022 - CSI events: Towards a greener future!” at the University of Nicosia.

The objective of the FARCE project is to propose a new, ‘infotainment’ based approach by re-calibrating today's negative news flow. Not making light of serious issues, but dealing with them in new thoughtful, humorous and educational contexts, might well be the key to making people wake up, take notice and act upon the crucial issues of the day such as the climate crisis, and engage with them in a more meaningful way; such is the power of satire.
