Former US presidential aide Pierre Salinger on Thursday (13/3) released a report claiming that TWA Flight 800 was shot down by a missile during secret navy exercises last year off the coast of New York state.
US Federal authorities have suggested the most likely theory for the explosion was a freak accident involving a fuel tank, but they have not ruled out a bomb or missile attack.
Radar pictures relied on by Salinger were published on Thursday by French weekly magazine Paris Match, which said it supported his theory that a missile brought down the plane.
