Top 10 Ugliest Animals
Number 10: Proboscis Monkey
The Proboscis monkey's large cartoon-like nose is actually used to attract females. The protruding nose grows to about seven inches long. Basically, if you’re a Proboscis Monkey, size actually does matter.
Number 9: Meishan pig
This large wrinkled face mammal is one of the most prolific of all pigs, yielding up to 25 baby’s per litter but mostly averaging 16-18. In my opinion, it looks kind of like a cross between a Bull Dog and a Pig, but ugly none the less.
Number 8: Mata-Mata
The Mata-Mata is a freshwater turtle found in South America. It has a large flattened spiky head, and a horn on its snout. Most of the time you’ll find these turtles smiling, so at least they have a good attitude.
Number 7: Monkfish
The monkfish is typically found in coastal Atlantic areas. It can grow up to about three feet and is a popular food, referred to as "poor man's lobster.” However, a glance of this sea creature may be enough to turn some people off the dish.
Number 6: Griffin’s Leaf-Nosed Bat
The Griffin’s Leaf-Nosed is quite a looker. The bat’s oddly shaped nose allows it to emit signals at a different frequency than other bats, and these frequency variations are more effective and powerful because of that funky nose.
Number 5: Fangtooth
I’m not sure if this fish is ugly or just friggin scary. Despite their ferocious appearance, Fangtooth fish are small and quite harmless to humans. They grow to about 6 inches and have the largest teeth relative to there to their bodies.
Number 4: Aye-Aye
This rat like animal made it to number four on our top ten list. How ugly are they? Native villages kill these animals whenever they cross paths because they are said to harbor evil spirits.
Number 3: The Naked Mole Rat
This rat has the face only a mother can love. It spends much of its time underground burrowing in darkness. Despite its frail appearance, the rodent is known for its ability to thrive in harsh environments. The naked mole rat is said to be impervious to pain.
Number 2: Star-Nosed Mole
The star-nosed mole is found in North America. It uses the tentacles at the end of its nose to identify foods such as worms, insects and crustaceans. At first glance, you can’t even tell if this ugly little beast has a face. The tentacles at the end of its nose appear to be something from a sci-fi movie.
Number 1:
By popular demand, the BlobFish is voted as the number one world’s ugliest animal. The flesh of the blobfish is primarily a gelatinous mass with a density slightly less than water. Because of the density it tends to have a much different look when it’s removed from water. Its relative lack of muscle is not a disadvantage as it primarily swallows edible matter that floats in front of it such as deep-ocean crustaceans. This blob like mass of a fish most definitely takes the cake for our top ten list of ugliest animal in the world.
Time for the question of the day:
Do you think the Blobfish is the ugliest of them all? If not, what would your vote be? Did we miss an ugly animal that should have hit this Top Ten list?
