Join us for the celebration of UNESCO's biosphere reserves programme! Launched in 1971, the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2021. On this occasion, the MAB Programme will showcase its role in promoting innovative approaches to economic development that are socially and culturally appropriate and environmentally sustainable.
On 17 November 2021, Mr Vik Muniz, Brazilian artist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, will present his artwork; Ms Sabrina Krief, French primatologist, will present the first results of a project using drones to monitor of Biosphere Reserves; the conservationist Dr Jane Goodall, Spokesperson of MAB 50th anniversary, photographer Mr Sebastião Salgado, Ms Hindou Oumarou, Indigenous people advocate, and Mr Michel Baudouin, Director of ERAIFT, will share their experiences with this year’s MAB Youth Spokespersons during a panel discussion.
In conjunction with its 50th Anniversary, the MAB Programme will also celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Conservation.
