In four years, the European research project REFRESH contributed significantly towards SDG 12.3 of halving per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030 and reducing food losses along production and supply chains. This video summarises the project's activities and findings in the field of consumer behavior. Households account for more than half of the food waste generated in the EU. A large survey conducted by Refresh in four European countries revealed relevant information on consumer food waste behavior that was used to draw conclusions for policy makers.
The EU research project "Resource Efficient Food and dRink for the Entire Supply cHain" (REFRESH) ran from 2015-2019. Together with 26 partners from across Europe and China from research, politics, industry and retail, Refresh has made considerable progress in tackling the issue in a holistic and integrated way and transforming the system into a more sustainable and responsible food system.
