Here's something that you never want to see printed on your boarding pass.
If your boarding pass is marked with four S's, it stands for Secondary Security Screening Selection.
That's a very long way of saying you're flagged for extra screening by the TSA.
Here's how it works, and then how to fix it if it keeps happening to you.
It's a little mysterious what triggers the four S's, the TSA is vague about that.
But they have a system of identifying red flags that require extra screening.
You may trigger a red flag if you're flying on a one-way ticket,
or you purchased your ticket within 24 hours of your flight,
or even if you paid cash.
And the amount of extra screening can vary.
It could be a metal detector, a pat down, or going through your bags more thoroughly.
If this happens to you, it could be just a one time thing.
But if it happens a lot, there is something that you can do.
Bookmark this now so you have it.
If you want to protest this happening to you more than once, you can request a review from the Department of Homeland Security. That system is called T. R. I. P.. It stands for this.
To find that, to search for "DHS TRIP" and look for the first link.
Remember anything like this look for the.gov web address to make sure it's the right place.
