Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most important celebrations in Hinduism, symbolising the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. It usually lasts five days, with families lighting oil lamps, decorating homes with rangoli (colourful patterns), exchanging sweets, and setting off fireworks. Diwali also marks the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom after defeating the demon king Ravana. In addition to Hindu communities, it is also celebrated by Sikhs and Jains, each with their own unique traditions. It's a time for family gatherings, prayers, and festive joy.
