“Noi fummo i Gattopardi, i Leoni; quelli che ci sostituiranno saranno gli Sciacalli, le Iene; e tutti quanti: Gattopardi, Leoni, Sciacalli e Pecore continueremo a crederci il SALE DELLA TERRA” /May 28, 2020
Conversation between the Prince of Salina and Chevalley of Monterzuolo.
"We were the Leopards, the lions
who will replace us will be the jackals, the hyenas,
and all of them: leopards, lions, jackals and sheep
we will continue to believe the salt of the earth."
The GATTOPARDO is a novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa (1896-1957) that narrates the transformations that took place in life and society in Sicily during the Risorgimento, from the moment of the transition of the Bourbon regime to the unitary transition of the Kingdom of Italy, following the expedition of the Thousand of Garibaldi. After the refusals of the main Italian publishing houses (Mondadori, Einaudi, Longanesi), the work was published posthumously by Feltrinelli in 1958, one year after the author's death, winning the Strega Prize in 1959, [1] and becoming one of the post-war best-seller; he is considered one of the greatest novels of all Italian and world literature.
The novel was adapted in the 1963 film of the same name, directed by Luchino Visconti and starring Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon.

The GATTOPARDO a colossal historical film of 1963 directed by Luchino Visconti, based on the novel of the same name by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, winner of the Palme d'Or for best film at the 16th Cannes Film Festival.
The figure of the protagonist of the film, the Leopard, is inspired by that of the great-grandfather of the author of the book, Prince Giulio Fabrizio Tomasi di Lampedusa, who was an important astronomer and who in literary fiction becomes Prince Fabrizio di Salina, and his family between 1860 and 1910, in Sicily (in Palermo and province and precisely in Ciminna and in the Agrigento fief of Donnafugata, that is Ciminna Palma di Montechiaro and Santa Margherita di Belice in the province of Agrigento).
