Idi Amin Dada, born in 1925 in Koboko, western Uganda, is a former military officer and political leader of Uganda. He came to power in 1971 through a military coup and served as the president of Uganda until 1979. Throughout Amin's regime, the country witnessed severe human rights abuses, oppression, and violence. Political repression and ethnic cleansing under his dictatorship led to the deaths of thousands of people. In 1979, he was ousted from power with the support of Tanzania after a war and went into exile in Saudi Arabia. Idi Amin passed away in 2003.
