The US has called on Iran's new president, Ebrahim Raisi to return to talks on reviving the historic 2015 nuclear deal.
A State Department’s spokesperson says Washington hopes that Tehran seizes the opportunity to advance diplomatic solutions.
However, Ned Price warned the window for diplomacy would not remain open forever.
He said at some point the benefits of reviving the pact will have been eroded by the advancements of Iran's nuclear program.
He reiterated the U.S. will defend and advance its national security interests and those of its partners.
Raisi was sworn in yesterday, saying he will support any diplomatic plans to end sanctions on Iran.
