In the spotlight is Filip Dousek, an artificial intelligence and data analytics expert who applies these disciplines to the novel. Dousek is interested in the illusions that underlie everything we do, from politics to economics to media. This summer he is publishing his first novel, “Flock Without Birds,” which was a bestseller in his native Czech Republic and will be available for the first time in the United States. The novel is a mind-altering original, including its experimental format — two books in one; the reader decides which one to read first.
We discuss:
— Experimental fiction
— Writing (and reading) books front to back and back to front
— The past as present and present as past
— Challenging human and cultural assumptions
— Math, physics and the nature of reality
— Why authors need to take fiction more seriously
— The creation of a new genre
— Etc.
