미국, 북한 ICBM 대비 첫 요격시험, 성공적으로 실시
The U.S. military says it has successfully shot down a mock ICBM for the first time,... in the latest test of the country's missile defense shield.
The anti-missile interceptor, fired from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, accomplished its goal of destroying a target vehicle designed to resemble an ICBM, over the Pacific Ocean.
The test occurred amid mounting worries over North Korea's growing nuclear and ballistic missile threats.
Despite the latest success, the "Ground-based Midcourse Defense" system, as it is called, has a spotty track record.
With the latest test, the system has successfully intercepted ten out of 18 targets since 1999.
