Did you know the dung beetle is actually a god? The Scarab Beetle from Egyptian mythology is actually just a dung beetle. While a beetle rolling a ball of poop doesn’t seem very sacred the ancient egyptians saw this as a symbol of life, death and rebirth. In Ancient Egyptian lore the god Khepri would roll the sun through the underworld at night and push it over the horizon in the morning, which was symbolized by the dung beetle rolling its precious ball of dung.
