Flåm is a small hamlet in southwestern Norway, near the fjords. It is located near the mouth of Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the massive Sognefjord. High above the Aurlandsfjord, the dramatic Stegastein viewing platform juts out. The 17th-century wooden Flåm Church is located in the valley south of Flåm Harbor. As it climbs to a station on the Hardangervidda plateau, the Flåm Railway offers vistas of valleys and waterfalls.The Flåm Railway has been called one of the most beautiful rail excursions in the world, and it is one of Norway's most popular tourist attractions.About 1.5 kilometers (0.93 miles) northeast of Myrdal Station sits the waterfall. During the summer tourist season, an actress dressed as a mythical Huldra (a seductive forest creature in Scandinavian folklore) dances and sings in front of the waterfall as the trains arrive for the guests' entertainment. The Huldra actresses are all Norwegian ballet school graduates.
