The layout and structure of Hogwarts and its grounds were altered for this movie, and although most of it remained the same for the sequels, almost every following movie has introduced some changes to the castle or environment to better suit storytelling. Alfonso Cuarón wanted to create a sense of continuity and realism within the castle, by linking spaces and creating a logical flow between the different areas of Hogwarts. For example, the Great Hall is now linked to a hallway that leads to the staircases, which in turn leads to the Gryffindor dormitory. Similarly, the wooden bridge outside now leads to a little garden of monoliths, which then leads to Hagrid's Hut. By making these changes, Alfonso Cuarón not only made Hogwarts feel more like a real place but also helped in creating an atmosphere that made it easy to navigate and understand the castle better, which improves the storytelling.
