Today, we will reflect on two readings that invite us to delve into sacred history and understand more deeply the divine plan for humanity. In the First Reading of Genesis 49:2.8-10, the patriarch Jacob, on the verge of death, blesses his children and prophesies about the future of the tribes of Israel. This excerpt is full of deep meanings, as Jacob's words not only reflect the strengths and weaknesses of his sons, but also point to the fulfillment of God's promises through the lineage of Judah, which will be the root of the lineage of David and, consequently, of Jesus Christ.
Jacob proclaims that the scepter will not depart from Judah, indicating that Israel's leadership and kingship would be established through his descendants. This prophecy, which is fulfilled in Jesus, is one of the keys to understanding the role of the Messiah in the history of salvation. The Gospel of Matthew 1:1-17 presents us with the genealogy of Jesus, linking him directly to this promise made by Jacob. Although many of these names represent figures from distant history, each of them is part of the divine plan for the Messiah. It is impressive to note how, through a lineage of human weaknesses and virtues, God leads history to the fullness of His Kingdom, which is revealed in Jesus.
As we reflect on these readings, we are called to recognize that the story of our salvation is not something distant or disconnected from our lives, but a continuous and living process, where each moment is part of a greater divine plan. Just as the tribes of Israel were waiting for the fulfillment of the promise, we are also called to live with the hope of the fulfillment of God's promises in our lives, in the certainty that He is always with us, guiding us every step of the way. .
