I can’t believe it, but Nintendo just announced a new Legend of Zelda game, where you actually play as Zelda.

It’s called Echoes of Wisdom and it’s set in the same art style as what we saw in the link’s awakening remake, which I personally liked, but I know there were some people who didn’t care for the way it looked.

Now this isn’t a remake or reimagining of any older game. This is a brand new thing, and it seems like they are using the concept of playing as Zelda as an excuse to really shake up the gameplay that you’d normally expect from a top-down Legend of Zelda game.

The main mechanic that they showed off in this reveal trailer was using this staff called the tri-rod. It gives Zelda the ability to magically duplicate items of even enemies. These duplicated items are called echoes in the game.

They showed ideas like creating echoes of tables so that you can use them to make your way up to an out of reach area, or creating echoes of enemies that will fight for you.

The trailer only gave us a brief look into what will be possible, but I can already imagine how this mechanic will allow for some really free-form and creative gameplay.
