Today's talking piece is about how I no longer use a mixing desk in my day-to-day production duties, and how the Allen & Heath monster behind me is now little but a relic, showpiece and overblown headphone mixer (when needed).
I've recorded through Amek, Neve and SSL desk (all of which deserve high praise and to be kept in service, if the studios can afford the maintenance and upkeep) but apart from super-expensive hardware, the game seems to be up for the desk.
The Analog vs Digital argument is rolling on, and this seems to be a large part of it. Analog preamps are still needed, but is the rest of it relevant anymore?
