COVID-19 has taken more lives in a short span of time in Indonesia than any other natural disasters in recent times. More than 140,000 people have died from the disease. And around 33,000 Indonesians have lost one or both parents, making them vulnerable to exploitations and abuse. Their lives, education and dreams have all been upended after the pandemic took away the lives of their loved ones, their livelihood and everything that they have fought for in life. Many are forced to work even at a very young age to help relieve their family’s financial burden, leaving their studies and ambition in tatters.
What does the future hold for these children who’ve been deprived of parental love and care which they once enjoyed? Can something be done to help them before it’s too late?
