In India, a child is sexually abused every 15 minutes, according to the latest government figures.
It is a fact that millions of girls and boys worldwide are being sexually abused within homes and outside. They are abused by families and known persons. The perpetrator can be anyone who exploits the child's vulnerability to gain sexual gratification. It involves mental, physical and emotional abuse of a child through overt and covert sexual acts, gestures and disposition - when informed consent or resistance by the child victim to such acts is not possible. It can also include activities which do not involve direct touching.
Afreen Khan talks about Child Sexual Abuse and her story to overcome incidents that have shaped her over years.
Afreen narrates the importance of giving the right education to child to help them identify good vs. bad touch. Aafreen Khan is a storyteller and spoken word poet, who addresses child sexual abuse. She came into the spotlight when a video of her reciting a poetry in an open mic session at Tape A Tale went viral on social media. She uses her own personal experience as a child sexual assault survivor to highlight the alarming statistics surrounding child sexual abuse the stigma that surrounds it.
By attaching emotional connotations to her narrative, she provides valuable insights on how to develop a transparent relationship between a parent and a child so that such situations can be dealt with, before it’s too late.
Her poem is essential in understanding that sexual abuse happens even within the ‘“safe” walls of our homes. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
