Shepherds were often poor and marginalized. Discuss why you think God chose shepherds to hear the Good News first. What does this tell us about who God values?
Connection to King David:
Shepherds remind us of King David, who was also a shepherd before he became king. How does David’s story help us understand the importance of Jesus being both a king and a shepherd?
The Angel’s Message:
Read Luke 2:10-11. The angel announced “good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” What do you think it means that the Good News is for “all the people”? How is this Good News still important today?
The Shepherds’ Response:
The shepherds quickly went to Bethlehem and shared what they had seen and heard. How can we follow their example in responding to the message of Jesus’s birth? What are some ways we can share this Good News with others?
