The Syrian government forces have halted the advance of rebel militants in the northern countryside of Hama province in central Syria, according to a statement issued by the government forces on Sunday.
The statement noted that the government forces strengthened their defenses and confronted the militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and allied opposition factions on Saturday evening.
Units of the Syrian army reinforced their defensive lines overnight with additional firepower, personnel, and equipment, successfully repelling attacks by terrorist organizations and preventing any breaches, according to another military source.
The militant group HTS and allied opposition factions Saturday advanced in Hama and took control of numerous towns and villages in the northern part of the province.
