STEP ASIDE, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus! As it turns out, your unfounded claim to be the "Greatest Show on Earth" is blatant LIE.
What exactly really IS the GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH...?!?! Take a SEAT and watch my video, to FIND OUT!! This is the ENTIRE 9 hours of CARNAVAL in the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil!!! Edited and cut down to a very short 41 minutes and 24 seconds!
There are two major aspects to the CARNAVAL celebration. The first, is the parade shows performed every night in the Sambodromo for 5 straight nights. Every year, the top Samba Schools in Rio compete with each other in a contest of gladiatorial levels to determine which school can put on the absolute best parade and dance performance.
It feels a lot like the NBA Finals, only it's much more creative and there are sexy booties, naked titties and asses shaking EVERYWHERE. I prefer it to basketball, for obvious reasons!! ;) ;) ;)
The yearly parades in the Sambodromo are considered the best show in the entire world, and seeing this show even once is a big bucket-list item for many around the world. Perhaps for that reason, the show is very EXPENSIVE.
I paid around $100 USD and that was for the cheapest seats I could find! If you wanted boxseats right in front of the action, you might be paying $1000!! Even at a $100, this prices most Brazilians out of being able to enjoy the show. There is a HUGE hype-train around the show, yet many Brazilians can't even afford to see it, and that's a shame.
Does the show live up to the hype??
Well, I can tell you after forking over my hard-earned $100 and sitting through the 9 HOUR EXTRAVAGANZA which goes on all night (from 9pm to 6am) the answer is YES... YES IT DOES.
In fact, I am hard pressed to even come up with a show that comes CLOSE to this in terms of RAW SPECTACLE. The over the top entertainment on display here is on another level.
I greatly enjoyed the Ladyboy Cabaret Show in Phuket Thailand, but this still blows that... and every other show on earth... out of the atmosphere!
I realize that I am making a bold claim here, but until you see it for yourself, you will never understand.
Also a little solace I got after spending $100 is the show does last a full 9 hours (and exhausts you after 5!). If you consider that's only about $11 per hour for top-notch entertainment, it doesn't seem so bad!!!
All in all, the once in a life-time chance to see 9 hours of non-stop samba dancers and huge floats with fireworks, music, etc is the best aspect of CARNAVAL, IMO... That is, IF you can afford it!!
