In US news and current events today, the Venice, Italy canals are usually murky due to being constantly trafficked by gondolas and motorboats, as of mid-March, they are much clearer than usual.
The government closed the country to tourists and asked locals to stay home in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus
on March 9. The canals are one of Italy’s biggest tourist attractions and are generally crawling with tourists walking the banks or riding in gondolas. Those tourists have been replaced by silence and cleaner water.
Residents of Venice can even spot schools of tiny fish swimming in the once-murky canals.
