Leslie Grantham was a British actor, best known for his role as "Dirty" Den Watts in the long-running BBC soap opera EastEnders. Born on April 30, 1947, in Camberwell, London, Grantham's life had many dramatic turns, both on and off the screen.

Before becoming an actor, Grantham served in the British Army, but his military career ended in controversy. In 1966, while stationed in Germany, he was involved in the fatal shooting of a taxi driver during a botched robbery attempt. Grantham was convicted of murder and served 10 years in prison.
