Just a minute: Lysine 🌰🥚🧀🥩🍗🍣
• What? Lysine
• Why? Anti-herpes (Cold Sores), Connective Tissue, and Collagen
• Which? L-Lysine
• How Much? 1-2gm/day
• Where? Cheese, Beans, Eggs, Nuts, Pork-Beef-Lamb-Poultry, Seeds, Soy, and Fish
FYI- supplement doses of L-lysine to help decrease the frequency and severity of herpes simplex virus outbreaks (cold sores) are at least 2-4 grams daily, divided into 2 or 3 doses.
A topical cream with L-lysine plus zinc can be effective to shorten the length of an outbreak by as much as 1-2 weeks when applied consistently.
L-lysine appears to slow replication of the herpes simplex virus. However, it does not have general anti-viral effects. In fact, people with HIV/ AIDS should not take high dose L-lysine supplements.
Lysine and arginine are fighting cousins. These two amino acids can cancel out the intended benefits if taken together. Indeed, if recurrent herpes is an issue, following a low arginine diet may be helpful.
