Playing with your furry friends is a fun way to build a solid relationship and bond. However it can get cumbersome if the dog does not return the motivator (ball, toy, rope, tug) and then turns into a game of catch. Having your dog return their motivator to you (the handler) is a good indicator to your dog that the game of fetch will continue, if they don't return the motivator then the game ends.

Training your dog to return to the handler also assists with their focus being on you as well as assisting with a reliable recall when distractions are around.
