Today's video is the first episode in what will hopefully be a two-part miniseries documenting my process of finishing A DARK SKY OPENS. I talk all about TrackBear, word-count goals—and the futility of word-count goals, lol.
The heart of this writing vlog is to reiterate the vast and cavernous line that sits between drafting and revision. As you likely know, I've been forced to navigate this difference, often treading closer to drafting and then wobbling back to revision, as needed.
I think that's been the most complicated part about finishing this book. There's a lot of from-scratch writing required, along with revision, as I need to blend all of that new material seamlessly into the existing material of the draft. However, as I discuss in today's video, I've got a VERY thorough outline of what is left for me to write, and that is making all of this feel more doable.
Also, an important note: I WILL NOT BE STREAMING NEXT WEDNESDAY. The reason for this is that next Wednesday is Christmas Day, and I suspect I'll be doing things that aren't writing related.
Have an absolutely wonderful rest of your December! I'll see you here again on January 1, 2025 for your next monthly newsletter—as well as, hopefully, the announcement of having finished A DARK SKY OPENS—and a brand-new video on my channel! 🤍
