The Kramer Reference 9S built in the late 80s looks like a normal composite decoder at the first glance. Except of having a TTL output and a CGA/EGA switch. In the retro month of EGA graphics, the #EGAnuary, we have a closer look at this thing.
In this video, I show the device itself, explain the reason why we have composite video and composite decoders, explain some basics about CGA and VGA TTL and then show some cartoon and series intros (partially, muted audio because of copyright) that show how this device can give any DVD the look of an 80s PC game. And in the end, I also make some assumptions about the use cases for this device, as a professional use case requires some power of imagination.
