On March 10th, 2019, we visited this historic column situated at the northwest end of Trajan’s Forum. The column was built to mark the triumph of Rome over the Dacians and depicts the story of the two Dacian Wars is full of Roman mythology and history told from the perspective of the Romans. Originally, there was a bronze eagle placed on top of the column, later replaced by a bronze statue of the deceased emperor Trajan, and once again replaced by St. Peter in 1588. This was common practice for the Roman Church to take historic sites and repurpose them to fit the Catholic religion.
