In recent years significant progress has been made in reducing infant mortality and in increasing primary school attendance. At present almost all UN member states have adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). A complaints mechanism has also been recently added, allowing complaints to be brought against states which fail to safeguard the rights of children. However, malnutrition and children's education being cut short remain serious problems.
