Why Could Darth Malgus Use Force Lightning But Darth Vader Could Not? The obvious and more boring reason you have probably all heard before was that Vader’s suit was intentionally made weaker by Palpatine so he couldn’t challenge the Emperor. But this is not the only reason. As well as being far less extensive than Vader’s, Malgus’ cybernetics were forged by the Sith of the Old Republic era. These forges didn't just use the most advanced technology, but the Sith alchemy developed the infamous ancient Sith such as Vitiate, Naga Sadow, and even King Adas. Thus, Malgus was able to use force lightning even through his cybernetic hand. However, by the time of Vader, so much knowledge had been lost, it is doubtful that even Palpatine could have made a suit able to contain the raw power of force lighting.
