On the 10th of January 2011, in the middle of the devastating Queensland floods, the town of Toowoomba was struck by flash flooding as a result of torrential rain. The town's creeks were unable to cope with the increasing levels of water and subsequently burst their banks sending devastating waves through the city centre. Emergency crews engaged in a number of rescues while fighting heavy rain and dangerous water rapids. 66 people were reported missing during the Toowoomba floods, with 9 being confirmed dead in the Lockyer Valley area alone.
