India: A cable bridge collapsed in Gujarat's Morbi on Sunday evening, leaving several people injured. As per initial reports, the cable bridge was restarted five days ago after renovation.
Several people fell in the river after the bridge collapsed. Rescue operations are underway. No casualties have been reported so far.
The administration, with the help of locals, is rescuing people who fell inside the river after the bridge collapse.
Gujarat govt forms committee to investigate the cause of Morbi bridge collapse
The Government of Gujarat has formed a five-member committee to investigate into the cause of Morbi hanging bridge collapse. A committee comprises of senior government official Rajkumar Beniwal, KM Patel, Dr. Gopal Tank, Sandeep Vasava and Subhash Trivedi. Beniwal is IAS and Municipal Administration Commissioner, KM Patel is Chief Engineer of Quality Control in Roads and Building department, Dr. Gopal Tank is head of the department in the Structural Engineering department in LD Engineering college in Ahmedabad, Sandip Vasava is secretary of Roads and Building department. Subhash Trivedi is IG of CID Crime
More teams of Army, Navy, IAF, NDRF, SDRF, SRP, Fire brigade for Morbi
According to the State government, 3 platoons of NDRF, 50 jawans of Indian Navy, 30 jawans of Indian Air Force, two columns of Indian Army jawans, 7 teams of Fire Brigade from Rajkot, Jamnagar, Diu and Surendranagar have been rushed to Morbi in view of the incident of bridge collapse. SDRF’s 3 and SRP’s 2 platoons are also reaching Morbi. A separate ward has been created in Rajkot civil hospital for treatment of those injured in the incident.
Gujarat BJP postpones 1st November get-together programme
Gujarat BJP has postponed its scheduled programme on 1st November which was to be held in virtual presence of Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi across 182 assembly seats. According to a note issued by the Media department of Gujarat BJP, the ‘Page Samiti Sneh Milan Programme’ on all 182 seats which was going to take place on 1st November is postponed. The decision has been taken apparently in view of the Morbi hanging bridge collapse tragedy. Prime Minister Modi was to address this programme from Mahatma Mandir in State capital Gandhinagar for party cadres from Gandhinagar assembly seat, while the cadres from other 151 seats were to attend this programme virtually.
