The first session of Parliament or the 17th Lok Sabha will begin from Monday. During the Parliament session, the passage of the Union budget and key legislation such as triple talaq are likely to be on top of the to-do list for the government. A day before Parliament session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an all-party meeting and also invited presidents of all parties, who have an MP either in the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha, to a meeting on June 19.
PARLIAMENT SESSION DAY 1 LIVE UPDATES:
10:32 am: PM Modi arrives in Parliament, welcomes "new friends". "We are working to fulfil people's aspirations. New friends will join today and they will bring new energy. We value the Opposition and their role. The Opposition should play an active role in Parliament," PM Modi says.
10:16 am: BJP MP Virendra Kumar takes oath as the pro tem Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha, at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
"I would request the ruling party as well as the Opposition parties that any problem can be resolved through discussions. So, during the session, parties should make an effort to find solutions," Thawar Chand Gehlot, leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha, said.

Delhi: The first session of the 17th Lok Sabha will begin today; Union Budget to be tabled on 5th July in this session of Parliament.
"As per the mandate, the ruling party and the Opposition hold a role to play for the country. PM Narendra Modi has guided us to work together for the nation. We all are making efforts to achieve the same," Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi ahead of Parliament session of 17th Lok Sabha today.
09:05 am: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address media outside Parliament at 10:25 am before the start of the session.
08:52 am: The Union budget will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 5, preceded by a pre-budget Economic Survey on July 4. It will be the full budget of the year because the one presented before the elections was a vote on account.
08: 45 am: The first two days of Parliament session, which concludes on July 26, will be used for administering the oath of office to all Lok Sabha MPs by pro tem Speaker Virender Kumar.
08:43 am: The Modi government had promulgated some ordinances, including the triple talaq bill, amendment bills on Jammu and Kashmir reservation, Aadhaar laws, companies act, and the Indian Medical Council Act.
08:40 am: The first session of Parliament will commence from today and passage of the Union budget and key legislations such as triple talaq. The Modi government had promulgated 10 ordinances in its first term after the opposition used its majority in the Rajya Sabha to block the bills in the previous session.
The meeting, according to the reports, is being called for all the party presidents to solicit their views on important subjects such as "one nation, one election" and "150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi".
During the meeting, the Opposition leaders raised the issues of unemployment, farmers' distress, drought, and press freedom. According to the reports, they also called for early assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
At the end of the all-party meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said, "We have received suggestions from the Opposition parties as well as our allies. PM Modi made concluding remarks that there are several new faces in Parliament, and new thoughts should come with them."
Besides triple talaq, the bills likely to be introduced in the House are Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers Cadre) Bill, 2019 and Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill 2019.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also invited MPs from both houses of Parliament for a dinner on June 20 where they will interact freely and exchange views.
