President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson welcomed Forum
participants, noting the importance of continued
dialogue throughout the Arctic region. Underscoring
the need for continued, active engagement between
the United States and Russia, President Grímsson
called for a reinvigorated approach to their shared
leadership role in the Arctic to ensure the region
remains one of international cooperation, peace, and
purposeful governance.
