Our final day in Norfolk and on our way home, stopped off at the final major preserved railway in Norfolk: the Mid-Norfolk Railway.
The Mid-Norfolk Railway was running its Green Service Timetable, and its trains are usually diesel-hauled. It does get a steam loco to work trains during the main summer season and that honour usually goes to BR(W) 9400-class 0-6-0PT No.9466. But this year, in addition to the 'Pannier', the MNR played host to Didcot Railway Centre's newly-restored blue GWR 6000-class 'King' 4-6-0 No.6023 "King Edward II". The loco was visiting so that it could get a good run-in prior to being made ready for main line workings.
Starting at Wymondham Abbey, we ride up to Dereham and then return again before starting our journey back to London. A fitting end to our holiday.
