Sangiran Early Man Site is an unusual UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located near the city of Surakarta (Solo) in central Java, Indonesia, Sangiran was a treasure trove for archaeologists. It's here that hominid fossils dating back millions of years were found, leading to what's now described as Homo Erectus, the last precursor species to Homo Sapiens. This is also where the famous "Java Man" fossils were found.
