After crashing drone on Apr 6, removed 4 arms (2018 ver.) and replaced with 2020 ver. arms by small modifications.
Special thanks to JNoake who is one of the best contributors to FIMI X8 Owner’s Thread V2 in RC Groups Forum.
He suggested to check the antenna length if 2020 ver. can reach to 2018 IPX male connector located other side.
Looking at EC site’s photos, it looked same length which is not possible to use as is.
Then he guided me how to extend 2020 ver. antenna cable.
Without his very detailed instruction of coax cable cut/solder cable including his YT how to do it, I never thought to cut 2020 version antenna cable and extend the antenna.
Checked the actual antenna length upon arrival, fortunately it is 25mm longer than 2018 ver. antenna cable.
So without extending 2020 version antenna cable, it is connected to 2018 ver. IPX Male connector.
Only modification required is to extend LED light cable to reach rear of mother board.
Also special thanks to Canarias-Stock.
They uploaded many YTs of X8 RC/Drone repairs.
I watched again and again to understand how to remove broken arms and replace with new arms.
Without these YTs, I could not repair broken arms.
Glad to observe drone flew same as before, although no aggressive flight in today’s test flight.
Timeline;
0:00 Broken condition after crash
1:00 Details of crash
1:57 Inside body
2:25 Removed 4 arms
2:57 Extended LED cables to reach 2020 ver. short LED cables.
3:17 Original plan to use 2018 ver. Antenna and/or 3rd party antenna (4 clovers or 3 clovers) to mount rear body.
4:10 Check 2020 ver. 4 arms. ’20 FR antenna is 25mm longer than ’18 FL. So expected to use ’20 FR antenna as is.
5:19 Antenna cable reaches to connector
5:26 LED cable and extended cable
5:44 Cut and extended LED cable near rear arm. It was good to cut LED cable near front arm position for easy layout.
6:00 Antenna cable avoided direct contact to heat-sink. Applied Blue color Chloroprene synthetic rubber – heat resistance 130C degree.
6:10 Disordering pump to clean up rear ESC soldering point. Did not remove front ESC points as glue was too thick.
6:24 Wire layout – not smart as double sided adhesive tape is used to fix the cables to avoid screw holes.
7:03 Comparison of cable layout
Left – Original, Right – Modified but not good
7:25 Broken arms and repaired arms.
7:59 In house test
8:18 Drone Status – All O.K.
8:28 2nd test of motor on. At first tested without Props for safety reason.
8:46 Test flight
8:57 Warning “System Initializing “. Usually this warning popped up, can not take off as ATTI mode.
So moved drone to side road for bottom cam can distinguish the pattern.
9:15 Move drone to road side – moved to VPU and GPS mode
9:47 Set Beginner mode for safety
9:50 Drone Status – All O.K.
10:23 Take Off
10:42 Drone movement
12:29 Test for Intelligent flight – Orbit – worked well
13:57 Gimbal Horizon level check with slow/quick yaw turn – worked well
15:50 Quick yaw turn – Keeping horizon level
15:27 PL test
15:57 landing pad detected at 4.9m H
16:08 Landed on the pad
16:13 Drone movement for PL
