STORYLINE:
Supporters of Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto fired gun shots at two police stations in Karachi on Tuesday,
protesting the opposition leader's detention under house arrest, police said.
Police used tear gas to disperse several bands of protesters in a poor district of the city where Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party is popular, according to a senior police officer. No injuries were as yet reported.
Bhutto, in the meantime, on Tuesday called on President General Pervez Musharraf to resign as she ruled out serving under him in a future government.
The call came as authorities mounted a massive security operation to hold her under house arrest for the second time in five days and prevent her from staging a protest against emergency rule.
An aide to the former Pakistani prime minister claimed her supporters would sweep away the barricades and allow her to embark on the planned three-day procession anyway.
