Geoffrey Herring of ARES Defense explains the ARES-16 AMG-2/MCR (Assault Machine Gun-2/Mission Configurable Rifle) dual-feed AR-type machine gun and to DefenseReview.com (DR) owner/editor-in-chief David Crane at Special Operations Forces Industry Conference 2012 (SOFIC 2012). The ARES-16 is a belt-fed/mag-fed modular machine gun that operates via a side-mounted gas piston/op-rod (push-type operating rod) and features a quick-change barrel (QCB) system, and either a telescoping or side-folding stock. The AR-16 can be had with either a self-regulating gas block/gas regulator or an adjustable gas block/gas regulator. The latter has three settings: a standard setting, suppressor setting, and single-shot setting.
